OVERVIEW OF BRASÍLIA
Brasilia was built to be the federal capital, seat and chambers of the government.
The architectural and urban planning was conducted by two professionals globally acclaimed: the architect Oscar Niemeyer, who designed the great buildings and great monuments, and urban planner Lucio Costa, who distributed buildings, streets and spaces in an admirable harmonious way.
These aspects, the Political, the Architectural and the Urban are today the main attractions of Brasilia.
It’s hard not to be impressed by the grandeur of ‘Praça dos Três Poderes’ Square. Even those who are less politically engaged can feel the power emanating from the buildings that surround the square: the Presidential Palace, the National Congress and the Supreme Court.
And so it is to visit other political institutions, such as the Palace of Justice, the Foreign Ministry, the Bank of Brazil, the Dawn, the Superior Courts; the imposing and grand appearance buildings that define the direction of the nation.
Unlike anything you’ve ever seen: that is the best way to start talking about Brasilia. The only modern city in the world to receive the title of Cultural Heritage of Humanity by Unesco is unique in every respect. The capital is much more than the political center of Brazil.
Two lines cross format. From this simple layout was born the Pilot Plan. With urban project of Lucio Costa and Oscar Niemeyer’s architectural, Brasilia came to life in 1960 at the hands of President Juscelino Kubitschek. Built in just 1000 days to be the new capital, she surprised by the modernism of the track and buildings.
In Brasilia, the buildings have no fences and no residential streets, but courts. SQN, SBS, CLS and W3 are very common to Brasilia addresses, like dozens of other acronyms. Incidentally, Brasilia is who is born in the city; candango is the name given to the people who built the new capital. Everything seems very strange in the eyes of visitors to the capital for the first time. Everything in its sector. Hospitals, banks, houses, apartments, commerce … and when the sector is not official, residents try to create it as a “street pharmacies”. Travel Brasília
WHEN TO GO
Famous for its low humidity, red dust, twisted trees and an amazing sunset, the capital of Brazil has a long period of drought. During the rainy season storms are intense and it is not uncommon the streets become flooded.
The climate is an important factor in choosing the best time to visit Brasilia, since the city has two very distinct seasons: dry and wet.
Signs of drought arrival begin in May, when the rains decrease and ipês-roxos (trees) announce their arrival. The still green grass, the flowery town and the weather with mild temperatures make this the ideal period for the visitors.
In July, the lack of rain is already well noticeable. Tourists unaccustomed to the low humidity, suffer a bit. Dry skin, chapped lips and dizziness are commonly experienced by visitors. However, the dust hanging in the air provides one of the most beautiful city shows: the sunset. He gained great tones ranging from yellow and purple. The good thing is that every day it will be spectacular!
The height of the dry season takes place in September, announced by the ipês-amarelos (trees), which bloom in full force. The increase in the number of fires makes the city be taken by the haze. It is the most difficult time for tourists and Brasilia, who dream of the arrival of the water. The weather is as a Desert – heat during the day and cold at night – until the arrival of the rains in October.
The sleeping green emerges strongly with the orange of flamboyants tree. Storms become more frequent between November and February. The period is the least indicated to visit the city, as many attractions are outdoors. In March the rains begin to decline and Brasilia prepares for a dry spell.
